Choosing Dining Room Furniture

Choosing the right dining room furniture for our dining rooms or dining area has become quite a challenge due to the vast choice there is on the market today.
There are so many factors to take into consideration – size, shape, colour, style, design and price.

Firstly, decide on the size of the dining table – how many you would like to seat everyday and if you would like to add more occasionally. A dining table that is oversized will just dominate the area and be cumbersome and difficult to move round it. Therefore it is important to measure your room and decide on the size table that will fit comfortably in this space. There are wide choices of extendable dining tables now which allows the table to fit perfectly in the room especially where space is at a premium but can easily and effortlessly be extended to seat more diners.

The shape of your dining table is also an important factor. Although round and square dining tables take up more room you can seat more people comfortably and everybody can see and talk to each other easily.

You have to decide which look you wish to achieve and would suit your dining room; contemporary, classic or maybe even an oriental or Mediterranean theme.

Using light wood such as beech, maple or light oak which is very popular today gives the impression of space and lightness it opens up the room.

Dining tables are made from various materials, cane, rattan, granite, marble, hardwood and glass all of which will provide you with a different look and style. A Mediterranean look would suit marble or granite whereas an oriental theme would be more in keeping in rattan and cane.

A few years ago dark wooden dining furniture in mahogany and chestnut were very fashionable it created a period style but could look very heavy especially in smaller rooms some may call it cosy.

The most important decision is the chairs. If you want your diners to linger in comfort after their meal – do you require high backed dining chairs for support, ample seat cushions or carvers to relax in?

Whatever you decide there seems to be something for everybody’s taste and style on the market. The dining furniture reflects you personality. Dining with friends and family in the comfort of your own home and round your own dining table is far more relaxing and enjoyable than in some restaurants.
